Mary Kathryn (Trout) Thomas

Mary Kathryn Thomas, 87, of Smithville, MO passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the Gower Convalescent Center.

She was born on July 13, 1927 to Lawrence Edgar and Mary Beulah (DeMoss) Trout near Paradise, MO.  From infancy she, her brother Thomas Edgar Trout and mother Mary Beulah Trout lived in the home of her maternal grandparents Thomas Morgan and Mary Della (Pyle) DeMoss in Paradise.  Mary attended school in Paradise until the family moved to Smithville.  In 1945 she graduated from Smithville High School.

On January 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to James C. Thomas, Sr.  After their marriage they farmed in the Smithville, Trimble and Mecca areas.  Her husband passed away on April 25, 1994.

She loved gardening and cooking.  She especially enjoyed making and sharing cookies, candies and garden produce with her neighbors, friends and family.

Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and brother.

Mary is survived by her two sons, James C. Thomas, Jr. and wife Barbara, Smithville, MO and Dr. Richard Alan Thomas of Brookhaven, NY; grandchildren James C. Thomas III and wife Sandra, Kansas City, MO, Patrick M. Thomas and wife Tracy, Gower, MO and Jill R. Vandegrift and husband Geoffrey, Shawnee, KS; great-grandchildren, Shannon Thomas, Anne Thomas, Jessica Merrill and husband Dakota, Dallas Thomas, Calvin Vandegrift, Julian Vandegrift and Gilbert Vandegrift.

Visitation:  10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 5^th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.

Private family burial will be held at Smithville Memorial Cemetery at a later time.
