In Remembrance Of
Mary Elberta Sloan
Mary Elberta Sloan, 92, of rural Plattsburg, MO, passed away, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at her home and is now with her Lord and Savior.
She is survived by her husband, Carl W. Sloan of 65 years. Born at Mecca, Missouri, Elberta was the daughter of Hugh Elbert Shannon and Mary Ann (Hixson) Shannon. Elberta was blessed with four children: Sally Ann Slatinsky of Kirkwood, Missouri, Charles Elbert Sloan of Plattsburg, Missouri, Virginia Gail Holman of Plano, Texas, and David Neil Sloan of Plattsburg, Missouri.
Elberta’s six grandchildren are: Tammy Job of Evanston, Illinois, Kathleen Strieker of Brentwood, Missouri, Scott Sloan of Blakesburg, Iowa, Wesley Sloan of Columbia, South Carolina, John Holman of Plano, Texas, and Jeff Holman of Dallas, Texas. Elberta’s ten great-grandchildren include: Truman Job, Caroline Job, Margaret Job, Ashley Slatinsky, Lydia Strieker, Matthew Sloan, Charles Sloan, William Sloan, Carly Holman, and Kaitlyn Holman.
Elberta was a life-long resident of Clinton County, housewife, mother, and school teacher. Elberta was a member of the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church, member of the Plattsburg Guild, member of the State of Missouri Retired Teacher’s Association, member of the Garland Chapter 287 Order of Eastern Star, Grand Representative to the state of Colorado, and Worthy Matron. Early in her teaching career, Elberta taught in these rural Clinton County schools: Jones School, Oakland School, and Mount Hope School. In later years Elberta taught at Plattsburg High School and East Buchanan Elementary in Gower.
Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 24th at the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church in Starfield, MO.
Burial: Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Eastern Star Service 3:00 p.m. on Sunday with visitation following until 5:00 p.m. at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mt. Zion Cemetery Association Fund.

What a special teacher she was! My third grade teacher. She was also a friend of my folks (Keith and Alta Harris).
Sorry for your loss – she is in good company in heaven!
