Mary E. (Kueffer) Jones

Mary E. Jones 94, of Smithville, MO passed away Friday, January 2, 2015.

She was born on August 30, 1920 to Oscar and Charlotte (Lotte) Kueffer near California, Missouri.  Mary grew up in the California, MO area.  After finishing high school she moved to Long Beach, California and worked at Douglas Aircraft.

On January 15, 1946 she was united in marriage to William ?Bill? Jones.  After their marriage they lived in Casper, WY, Kansas City, MO area and eventually settled in Smithville in the late 50?s.

After 1956 when their son was born with a disability she became very active in the field of Developmental Disables.  Mary retired after 24 years from the Missouri Department of Education.  She spent many times at Special Olympic meets and school activities; taking care of her family was her priority always.  She enjoyed attending sports and other activities with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.

After her retirement she and her husband enjoyed traveling in a motor home.  They traveled and saw much of the U.S. and Canada.

Her parents, a sister Emma and her son Fred all preceded her in death.

Mary is survived by her husband Bill; daughter Martha Devers and husband Archie, Smithville, MO; grandchildren Kelly Devers, Charleston, SC and Amy Hyatt, Smithville, MO; and great-grandchildren Quintin and Kiefer Hyatt; sister Dorothy Lemke and husband Rudy, Jefferson City, MO; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial Service:  2:00 p.m. Friday January 9^th with visitation following at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
