Marion Lyle Shafer
Marion Lyle Shafer, 93, of Edgerton, MO, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
He was born on January 7, 1917 to Orvel and Daisy O. (Bywaters) Shafer in Edgerton, MO where he grew up and graduated from Edgerton High School. He then served his country in the US Navy during WW II.
Marion retired from TWA in 1982, after 25 years. He was a member of the Edgerton Christian Church were he was presently an Elder Emeritus. Marion was also a member of the American Legion Post 0445 for 63 years; the Masonic Lodge for 61 years; he was the District Deputy Grand Master Grand Lodge of Missouri from 1977-1978; and he was a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 48 years, Zelma “Pearlie” Shafer in 1987; his second wife of 17 years, Betty Ann in 2007; and three brothers David, Elmer Lee and Eugene “Peanie” Shafer.
Marion is survived by son, Darrel Shafer and wife, Dickie, Edgerton; daughter, Geraldine Swafford and husband, Joseph, Platte City, MO; step-sons, Bill Tidd and wife, Linda, Overland Park, KS and Robert Tidd and wife, Liz, Wellsvill, KS; four grandchildren, Scott, Valerie, Keith, and Clayton; three step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Shafer, Kathleen Dodson; brother, Dale Shafer, all of Smithville, MO; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18th at the Edgerton Christian Church in Edgerton, MO.
Burial with Military Honors: Ridgely Cemetery.
Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday with visitation following until 8:30 p.m. at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Edgerton.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the church or the American Legion.
