LYLIA L. GAERTNER

Lylia LaFern Gaertner, 81, of St. Joseph, Mo., passed away, Monday, November 13, 2006.

She was born on September 25, 1925 to Vernie Monroe and Sarah Rachel (Keats) Ellis in Clarksdale, Mo., where she grew up and attended school.

On May 24, 1946 she was united in marriage to Eugene Hale Gaertner, Jr. in Seattle, Washington. After their marriage they lived in St. Joseph until 1953 when they moved to Kansas City. In 1967 they moved to Gower and in 1983 they returned to St. Joseph where they made their home. Her husband, Eugene, preceded her in death on April 24, 1997.

Lylia was a member of McCarthy Baptist Church in St. Joseph.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Doris Hector and Dovie Price; and two brothers, Ernest and Norman Ellis.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Gaertner and wife, Claudia, Clarksdale, MO, and Mark Gaertner and wife, Teri, Platte City, MO; three granddaughters, Jill Bratcher and husband, Matt, and Sara and Megan Gaertner; great-grandson, Clayton; and brother, William Ellis, St. Joseph, MO; other relatives and many friends.

VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
Private Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.
