Luther C. Bruce
Luther C. Bruce, 87, of Smithville, MO passed away, Saturday, January 12, 2008 at his home.
He was born on September 6, 1920 to Charles Everett, Sr. and Jessie Annie (Nelson) Bruce near Smithville where he grew up and attended school. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a survivor of the Omaha Beach Invasion on D-day.
On October 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Bessie Ruth Moore. After their marriage they farmed near Smithville and in 1995 moved to Smithville where they made their home. His wife, Bessie, passed away, January 2, 2006.
Luther was a member of the American Legion Post 58 in Smithville, and also a member of the VFW Post in North Kansas City. He was a Little League Baseball Coach, and after retiring from farming he became an avid gardener.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Gary; infant daughter, Marilyn; grandson, Kyle; brothers, Everett, John, Frank and Bob Bruce; sisters, Anna Belle Bruce, Mary Keller and Thelma Stotts.
Luther is survived by his son Ronnie Bruce and wife, Mary, Flower Mound, Texas; daughter, Charlene Bruce, of the home; three grandchildren, Brian, Cody and Caitlyn, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville
Burial with Military Honors: I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.
