Lucille N. Beery
LUCILLE N. BEERY
Lucille Nash Beery was born November 3, 1913 to Lon and Iva Johnson Nash and passed away September 26, 2005 at the age of ninety-one.
Lucille grew up on the family farm, south of Gower, Missouri as did her father and grandfather before her. At the age of six she rode her horse to Rising Sun Country School where she attended all eight grades. Following grade school she attended Gower High School, riding a horse 4 miles each way daily, missing only one day in four years because the snow was so deep her horse couldn?t get through.
Upon graduation from high school she attended and graduated from St. Joseph Junior College where she obtained a degree in teaching. In 1934 she returned to rural Gower to teach all eight grades at her childhood school, Rising Sun.
In 1936 she married Thomas Ronald Beery, also of Gower, Missouri. There they made their home and raised their only child, Ronilue Beery Garrison of Gladstone, Missouri. Lucille continued teaching on a substitute basis during the 40s and 50s. Throughout her life, her devotion to family, home and her faith defined her every waking moment. Always a devoted wife, mother, daughter and daughter-in-law, her greatest joy was serving family and others.
While a member of Gower Baptist Church she served as Children?s Sunday School Director and church treasurer for a number of years. In 1963 the family moved to Maryville, Missouri where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. Lucille regularly visited nursing homes, often adopting several of the patients, taking them shopping, taking holiday meals to them and even inviting them to her home for holiday dinners. Her volunteer work extended to St. Francis Hospital in Maryville where she served as a Red Cross volunteer.
In 1979 she and Ronald retired to St. Joseph where she has resided until her recent hospitalization.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband of fifty-seven years, Ronald and grandson, Chad Ronald Garrison.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law Dr. Ronilue and Tom Garrison of Gladstone, grandson and his wife, Dr. Matthew and Catherine Garrison of Liberty, Missouri and beloved great-granddaughters Paige Marie and Blair Elizabeth Garrison, also of Liberty.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Chad R. Garrison Memorial Fund at William Jewell College, 500 College Hill, Liberty, Missouri 64068.
