Loren W. Schneider

Loren W. Schneider, 86, of Gower, MO passed away January 2, 2015 at the Gower Convalescent Center.

 

He was born on October 14, 1928 to Joseph and Gladys (Schrenk) Schneider in rural Buchanan County near St. Joseph, MO.  In 1947 Loren graduated from Central High School.  He served his country in the US Air Force for four years, becoming a Master Sergeant. 

 

In 1949 he was united in marriage to Wilma Yeakley.  In 1957 Loren and his wife Wilma and daughter Kathi moved to Gower when they acquired the Farmers Bank of Gower.  Karen joined the family in 1962.  He continued in banking for over 50 years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed bowling and was on a team for many years.  Loren was also an avid golfer and took many family vacations to Florida each winter.

 

Loren was an active member of the Gower Christian Church where he was always participating in many roles.  Loren was one of the original members to start the Gower Convalescent Center serving on the board for 36 years and was also on the original board for Missouri Western State University.  He also served as Mayor of Gower for many years, helped start the Gower Swim Club and developed housing in Gower.  Loren was a very civic minded member of the community, always working to help the town grow.  The highlight of Loren?s life was his family, making Gower a better place to live and the Bank.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Allen Bunt.

 

Loren is survived by his wife Wilma of the home; daughters Kathi Mallen and husband Ernie, Stewartsville, MO and Karen Bunt, Sunrise Beach, MO; grandchildren Angela Watson and husband Nick, Erin Miller and Dylan McGuire; sister Awanda Jo Newman and husband Richard, North Palm Beach, FL; other relatives and many friends. 

 

Funeral Service:  3:00 p.m. Monday, January 5th at the Gower Christian Church with visitation from 1:30-3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the Gower Christian Church AFC building.

Burial:  Allen Cemetery, Gower

Memorials may be made to the Gower Convalescent Center or the Gower Christian Church.

    Sorry to hear this news. I spent a lot of time with Loren when MWSC was in the early stages. We addressed a lot of emerging problems as the school was transformed that many people will never realize. We also shared many hours as we worked together on my clients/his bank customers. We had many delightful times together and he was a good friend. I have great memories of our life together during those years.
