Leo Gene Hurley

Leo Gene Hurley, 82, of Kansas City, formerly of Smithville, Mo., passed away, Monday, December 3, 2007.

He was born on December 31, 1924 in Danvers, Illinois where he grew up and in 1942 graduated from Danvers High School.

 

He then served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. After his honorable discharge he returned to Danvers where he farmed. In 1951 he moved to Kansas City where he attended trade school for plumbing. In 1980 he moved to Smithville where he made his home until 2005 when he moved to The Gardens at Barry Road in Kansas City, MO.

Leo worked as a plumber for Plumber’s Local #8 in Kansas City, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the Plumber’s Local #8 for over 50 years, Masonic Lodge #391 in Raytown, Scottish Rite and the Ararat Shrine where he served as a member of the directors staff. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #58 in Smithville, North Kansas City VFW #4050 and Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.

Leo was preceded in death by his first wife, Roxie in 1978, wife, Mildred (Adams) Hurley in 2006 and his parents.

He is survived by step-son, Ronald Adams and wife, Linda, Kansas City, MO; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; brother, Glenn Hurley, Mackinaw, Illinois; sisters, Mary Davis, Morris, Illinois and Dorothy Jantzen, Baltimore, MD and 14 nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 11th, at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.

Burial with Military Honors: Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.

Masonic Services: 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with visitation following until 8:30 p.m.
