Larry Driver

Larry Allen Driver, 79, of Smithville, MO passed away on Sunday, December 24th, 2017.  
 
He was born on November 15th, 1938 in Hardin, MO to Chester Lawrence and Mildred Constence (Stuart) Driver.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Connie Vick, a brother, Dale Driver and wife Joyce Driver.   Larry was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marty (Sudbury) Driver.
 
Larry is survived by his wife, Jane, of the home, two sons, Mark Driver and wife Leslie, and Leigh Allen Driver and wife Suzanne, four grandchildren, Blake Driver and Grant Driver, Jeff and Nicole, a brother Dan Driver and wife Brenda. Also a blended family of seven children, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Phil and Kathy French, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
 
Larry grew up in the Hardin and Richmond, MO areas and graduated from Hardin High School in 1958.  He joined the Navy in 1958 and served until 1962.  He served on the supercarrier USS Kitty Hawk when it was commissioned in 1961 and saw the world while in the Navy.  After leaving the Navy he spent many years in the freight trucking business in Kansas City.  After leaving trucking, he held several positions, including real estate agent. He was employed by Diversified Industries, Pack’s Hardware and Midamerica Analytical & Company. Larry was an Elder in the Smithville First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and also taught Sunday School.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Smithville.  He was a charter member of the Smithville Jaycees and a charter member of Ducks Unlimited Chapter #68 in Smithville.
 
Larry loved his family and cared about everyone.  He enjoyed the outdoors and knew a lot about plants and animals.  He enjoyed trapping, boating, hunting, buying and selling antiques and woodworking.  But his real passions were fishing, gardening and the Kansas City Royals.  He spent many hours at the family cabin on Truman Lake near Warsaw, MO where he enjoyed the outdoors and entertained family and friends.  He was famous for teasing and playing mischievous jokes on unsuspecting victims.  Laughter was a big part of Larry’s life and he never lost his sense of humor, even as his health failed.
 
Memorial Service:  11:00 a.m. Friday, December 29th at First Christian Church in Smithville with visitation one hour prior to the service.
 
The family requests donations to the Smithville First Christian Church in lieu of flowers.
Inurnment of ashes will be at Paradise Cemetery in Paradise, MO at a later date.
