Kathleen Lucile (Deters) Miller
Kathleen Lucille Miller, 85, of Edgerton, MO, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013.
She was born on February 16, 1928 to Henry Francis and Cora Rose (Stueve) Deters in Axtell, KS, where she grew up and graduated High School.
On April 6, 1948 she was united in marriage to Arnold James Miller. After their marriage they lived in Centralia, Kansas and in 1950 moved to Kansas City. In 1968 they moved to Edgerton where they made their home. Her husband Arnold passed away on March 4, 2009.
She was member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Smithville, where her and Arnold were one of the founding families of the church. Kathleen was also a member of the Chat N Nibble Club in Edgerton, the Knit-Wit Club in Kansas City and the Uncouth Group with friends from church.
Kathleen taught in a one room school house on an Indian Reservation. She was also a part time house cleaner and a full time homemaker. Arnold teased her about being a “Scrubby Dutchman”. Kathleen loved being with people and enjoyed entertaining. She referred to herself as the matriarch of the Miller family and was an advocate for her children.
Kathleen was also preceded in death by her parents; son Larry Lee Miller; granddaughter, Carrie Ann Miller; brothers, Adrian and Donald Deters; sisters Dorothy Broxterman, Anna Marie Bishop, Patricia Durkes, Mary Claire Quaney, and Betty Miller.
She is survived by sons, James Arnold and wife Susan, Apex, NC; Ronald Miller, Platte City and Gary Miller and wife Wanda, Edgerton; daughter, Wendy Miller, Smithville;
grandchildren, Eric Miller, Rachel and Mike Rothbard, Christine Miller, Clifford Miller, Leslie and Robert Christiansen, Jamie and Loretta Miller, Jeremy Miller and Jonathan Miller, great-grandchildren, Julia, Emily, Jacob, Trent, Tessa, Kaitlyn, Brandon, Ryan, Ian, Galen, Gavin, Destiny, Hayden, Trinity, Damian, Tristin, Mersadize, Harley and Lilliee; sister Marjorie Bergman, Mulvane, KS; brothers Frank Deters and wife Myra, Gardner, KS; John Deters and wife Ann Marie, Colorado Springs, CO; Charles Deters and wife Mary Lou, Topeka, KS and Bill Deters and wife Kathy, Hedgesville, WV; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 6th with visitation following until 8:30 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church Smithville.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday August 7th at the church.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City.
Donations may be made to the church.
