Karen Marilee (Boyer) Argotsinger

Karen Marilee Argotsinger, 71, of Smithville, MO passed away Friday, August 30, 2013.

 

She was born on July 1, 1942 to Ernest H. and Mable M. (Peters) Boyer in Callaway, NE where she grew up and graduated from Callaway High School.  Karen received her Bachelors of Science in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska. 

 

On June 22, 1963 she was united in marriage to James Ronald Argotsinger.  After their marriage they lived in Lincoln, NE, Glenwood, IA, Indianola, IA, Creston, IA, and Kirksville, MO.  In 1993 they moved to Smithville and ran the Smithville Pharmacy from 1992-1998.

 

Karen worked for Russell Stover’s Candy in Lincoln, NE while she was going to school.  In 1968 Karen and Jim purchased a pharmacy in Creston, IA and later expanded the business to include a fabric store and other ventures.  Karen loved sewing making several wedding dresses and many quilts.  She was a quilting enthusiast and fabric-aholic.  Karen was a loving wife and mother and was very proud of all her grandchildren.  She was a very kind, warm hearted, generous person who opened her home to all.

 

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi in Creston, IA and several quilting association. 

 

Karen was preceded in death by her parents.

 

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jim; children, Carol Rice and husband Adam, Rodney Argotsinger and wife Chanda, Kenda Argotsinger, Melanie Johnson, and Den-Ny Hwang; grandchildren, Joshua, Meghan, Michael, Tiffany, Emily, and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Desiree, Xearianna, and Daymien; brothers, Ernest Boyer and wife Erna, and Stan Boyer and wife Diane, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

 

Memorial Service:  2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville with visitation from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
