Joyce Arlene (Simonsen) Shriner
Joyce Arlene (Simonsen) Shriner, 88 of Kansas City, MO formerly of Estherville, IA passed away June 2, 2019.
She was born July 9, 1930 in Webb, Iowa to parents August and Minnie (Mortenson) Simonsen.
She received her education in the Webb Schools and graduated May 13, 1948. On February 25, 1951 Joyce was united in marriage to Ralph "Dutch" Shriner at her parent’s home in Webb. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Rodman until 1953 before moving to Sanborn, IA for Dutch’s job. Joyce worked for Vanderhaag Salvage as a bookkeeper where Dutch taught. In 1969 they moved to Estherville, where she worked at Dave’s Photography. Joyce lived in Estherville until moving to Kansas City in 2014.
Joyce was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cross-stitching, crossword puzzles, playing cards, her beloved Chicago Cubs, which she and Dutch went to see every winter in Mesa, Arizona after Dutch retired. She loved being with her family, and always made sure to tell us, "Love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around your neck!"
Left to lovingly remember Joyce are her children, Steven Shriner and wife, Deb of Smithville, MO and Susan Gilman and husband, Jim of Rochester, MN, four grandchildren, Michelle Miller and her husband, Matthew and their children Nicholas and Zachary: Michael Shriner and his wife, Tiffanie and their children Lucas and Averie; Angela Marden and her husband, Ryan and her children Kelsey, Micheala and Katie; Joshua Gilman and his wife Jessica. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dutch and siblings Helen, Ken and Duane.
Visitation: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday June 8th with Funeral Services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8th at First Presbyterian Church, Estherville, Iowa
Burial: East Side Cemetery, Estherville, Iowa
