I write as a teammate, college roommate and friend. Only we old ones remember what a terrific athlete Johnny was and how unassuming he was about his achievements.
I have tremendous respect for the determination he and Shirley showed by returning to MU after Johnny’s military service to earn his engineering degree,
Great memories of card games in Trimble and a trip to south Missouri to visit his grandparents.

I am so sorry to hear of Johnny’s passing. I was his neighbor for many years. I will never forget his autumn parties and he would take everyone on hay rides to his pumpkin patch. Johnny knew how much I loved home grown tomatoes and would show up at my back door with a flat of them. It always made my day. I also recall going through a tornado. My back yard was cluttered with limbs and Johnny being the neighborly person he was brought his cart down and loaded up the piles I made and transported them the a large ditch he was trying to fill. His kind acts always came at a time we needed it most. Rest in peace Johnny and to his family, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
