In Remembrance Of

John Larimer

John David Larimer, age 65, resident of Camden Point, Missouri, died unexpectedly doing what he loves, helping people and working outside. He was surrounded by his family and through them and his many accomplishments his legend lives on.

John was born October 26, 1958 to James D. Larimer and Loretta J. Larimer. He was the great grandson of early Hancock County pioneers on both his Mother and Father’s side and spent years tracing his family’s roots back to France and Ireland as far back as the early 1800s. He attended school at Camden Point and graduated in 1976 from North Platte High School in Dearborn, Missouri and later studied business at Maple Woods College. Although his passion was aviation/writing/traveling, John went into the hotel business and worked with Marriott International for ~25 years. Throughout that time, he was also a JCL Analyst for DST and a Network Operations Analyst for Commerce Bank. For the past 50+ years, John has tended and nurtured our 160-acre family farm all while completing adventure after adventure around the world and truly experiencing life to the fullest.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Paula Larimer of Smithville, his brother, Michael Larimer of St. Joseph and his nieces and nephews: Tommie Tedder, Brandi Combs (Randy), Dallas Tedder, Beau Larimer, Brittany Neal, Jessica Larimer, Schayler Larimer, James Larimer (Cheyenne), Drake Beery (Thita Marie) and their children: Jaden Gordon, Tylen Larimer, Daniel Combs, Gabriella Combs, Everest Larimer and Cadence Beery. John was a generous man and helped his brothers and sisters raise his many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Loretta Booz Larimer, his sister, Sheila Larimer, his brother, William Larimer, and his niece, Harley Combs.

John was a member of the Camden Point Baptist Church. He was a man of faith and he loved spending time traveling and being with family. As a youth, John showed a passion for reading, adventure, art, rare books and maps along with the telling of a joke or two. John was a lifelong world traveler, having been around the globe multiple times starting when he was just 15 years old backpacking throughout Europe for 2 months visiting 13 countries and returning home 2 weeks late for the 11th grade. He proceeded to go around the world two weeks after graduating from high school.

John loved to explore the battlefields of WWI and WWII where his ancestors once fought, and the villages of France where his Great Great Grandparents came from. In 2015, he completed the Camino Frances on his Road to Recovery following open heart, quadruple bypass surgery as a type I diabetic walking 600+ miles to honor his parent’s and lost loved ones. He then completed two more Caminos each time walking 600+ miles on his Road to Redemption and the Camino Portuguese in 2018 and his Date with Destiny on the Camino Via de la Plata in 2019 at the age of 60 years old. Throughout his years John especially enjoyed spending time in France sitting at small cafes or walking the beautiful countryside. He is a published author of many works and a distinguished gentleman with an insane work ethic. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and BEST friend forever to countless people, all of which he considered family. John inspired and motivated his family. May his loving memory live on in his sister, brother, nieces, nephews, friends and all their families.

So sorry to hear John is gone. John was always interested in learning about new things and traveling. We both marveled at our chance meeting in Vernazza, Italy and caught up over some great Italian wine. I hope you can remember his great adventures over the years. My prayers are with his family.
