In Remembrance Of

John Finney
John Oliver Finney 81, of Agency, Missouri, passed away February 22, 2025.
He was born July 15, 1943 to Homer and Mary Finney. John graduated from Faucett High School and later served his country in the Air National Guard.
In August of 1966 he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Moser. They made their home on a farm just north of Faucett.
John worked for the St. Joseph Stockyards and Santa Fe Railroad before becoming a farmer full time. Farming was a true passion of John’s. He loved every aspect of it no matter if times were good or bad. He still had goals for the farm up until the very end.
John loved International Harvester tractors and proudly owned over 30. He shared that love with his family taking his beloved 806 on tractor cruises and later encouraging his grandson into tractor pulling. John also loved horses. He spent many years as a devoted horse show dad to his daughter and later himself became an avid competitor in team penning.
John was a community icon at the Farris Truck Stop in Faucett. He drank countless cups of coffee discussing all the local happenings at the “loafer’s table”. He loved to tell stories of days gone by and he definitely had some worth telling. He enjoyed being with friends and going on road trips any chance he could.
John was always in attendance for any activity his family was taking part in. He was so proud of his grandson’s and all their accomplishments. He loved watching football and was a big Chiefs fan.
John is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn and sister Mary Ellen.
He is survived by his daughter Andrea Veatch, son in law Chris Veatch, and grandsons Barrett and Blane; sister Dorothy Woodward (Eddy), brother William Finney; several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

There was so many memories made back in time spent working along side John during my childhood. The stories were never boring, and everyday was a new adventure. He made farming fun and always had a project for the off season. The trust he had for a kid that could hardly see over the steering wheel to drive him around, and to operate his farm machinery to get the ground ready for planting to the time of harvest. The late nights asleep riding next to him in the combine to a nudge saying go get the pickup were outta fuel. And after countless harvest seasons of riding and watching everything about running the combine he let me take control and I was on top of the world. 60’s and 70’s are long gone but the memories are still fresh and John was and still is very much apart of them. So many many stories I could tell of a man that kept the farming/piddling entertainment going. And yes Farris truck stop was an every morning adventure the stories the laughs on to the unknowns of the day but everyday was never the same as the day before. John would stop everything from his everyday farming work and life to help someone in need. I haven’t seen John for a few yrs but never a day goes by that he isn’t thought of rather seeing a field being worked, livestock, horses, or just hearing something that makes you think back to the times spent working along side John. He will be missed but from time to time he will be thought of and in a storytelling. Thanks again for all the memories and knowledge John…..

I worked with John at the Santa Fe Railroad many years ago. He was a great friend and when they said he was a great story teller I know that to be true because I heard a lot of them about the liars club at the truck stop. I hadn’t seen John for years but he was a great friend to me & so sorry to hear of his passing. Prayers for his family.

John was a great man. My favorite memory was when I was about 13 and he convinced me to come help him round up some cows that had gotten out. That was an adventure. RIP John.

John always a kindhearted man a smile like no other, from ear to ear , a hard worker , I enjoyed talking with him, let me visit Butterscotch the horse I had with my granddaughter Carley, i would leave apples and carrots , John would say I would eat those apples you left ! He mowed our pasture and was very happy that his grandson was helping him in his trade of farming. I always welcomed John with a glass of tea or a cold bottle of water! No matter where you see John he was sure to talk with you! I will miss you ! My friend!
