John Edward O’Day
John E. O’Day, 77, of Hemple, MO, passed away, September 23, 2010 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cameron.
He was born on August 16, 1933 to Edward Michael and Mary Ann (McLarney) O’Day in Maryville, Missouri. He attended grade school in Easton at the St. Joseph Catholic School. John graduated from Gower High School where he played football and was a member of the FFA. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On March 5, 1957 he was united in marriage to Eleanor Jones. After their marriage they lived in Hemple where they made their home.
John held office as the Clinton County Clerk for 20 years. He returned to the farm and started his trucking business in 1990. John also farmed in the Hemple area for 50 years.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Easton. John served on the East Buchanan School Board, and was a member of the American Legion Post #393 in Gower.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Edna Mae Piercell and Eileen Cox.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of the home; two sons, Ed O’Day and wife, Crickett, Gower, MO and Joe O’Day and wife, Jill, Hemple; granddaughters, Malynda O’Day and Sami Jo O’Day; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside Inurnment: 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 27th at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Easton.
Rosary: 6:00 p.m. Sunday with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
Donations may be made to the Missouri Veteran’s Home.
