John E. Hessel

 

 

John Edward Hessel, 70, of rural Easton, MO passed away, Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at his home.

 

He was born on July 15, 1943 to Floyd William and Eunice (Tuschhoff) Hessel in Smithville, MO.  John grew up on a farm near Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School in 1961.  He then attended Central Missouri State in Warrensburg where he received an Industrial Arts Degree.  John then served his country in the U.S. Army as 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. 

 

On June 13, 1970 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Ellen Nutt.  After their marriage they lived in rural Easton where they made their home.

 

He was a longtime member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church.  John was a gifted craftsman and machinist and loved and restored his Allis Chalmers tractors.  He had a great love for animals and the outdoors and was an avid gardener.  John was a volunteer for Soaring Hope Equestrian Center for Disabled Children and was a 4-H volunteer.  He was also a member of the Kansas City Carriage Club along with multiple Allis Chalmers tractor clubs for many years.  Most of all John enjoyed being with his wife, children and grandchildren, participating in their activities, and sharing his hobbies and interests with them. 

 

John was preceded in death by his parents.

 

He is survived by wife, Kathy, of the home; son, Todd Hessel and wife Carrie; daughter, Teresa Skidmore and husband Steve; grandchildren, Cora, Lydia, Caroline, Steven III and Chloe; siblings, Carol Schattinger and husband Emery, Mary Lue Wallace and husband Don, Liz Ivy, Bill Hessel, and Ed Hessel and wife Karen; brother-in-law, Fred Nutt and wife Judy; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

 

Funeral Service:  11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5th at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, rural St. Joseph, MO.

Graveside Service:  2:30 p.m. Saturday at Arley Cemetery, Kearney, MO.

Visitation:  6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.

 

Donations may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church or Soaring Hope Equestrian Center.
