John A. Shackelford

John Andrew Shackelford, 44, passed away on February 20, 2009 at his home in Edgerton, MO.

John was born on March 11, 1964 in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Plattsburg High School in 1982 and graduated from Hillyard Technical School in 1983, where he received a degree in graphic arts. He was an Eagle Scout and was on staff at Camp Geiger in St. Joseph, MO in 1980. John worked for Missouri Gas Energy for many years. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors.

John lived most of his life in the Smithville area. On November 7, 2007 he was united in marriage to Julie Martin. After their marriage they made their home in Edgerton. John always carried a smile on his face and was friends with everyone as he never met a stranger. John was a loving father that will be deeply missed by his family.

He was preceded in death in 1995 by son John Moroni Shackelford and in 2008 by sister Kerri Houston.

John is survived by his wife Julie Martin; his children Phillip & Callie Shackelford of Paola, KS; Julie’s children, Cian Martin, Corbyn Langner, and Jenara Kyle and six grandchildren; his parents, Phillip and Linda Shackelford of Trimble MO; brothers, Phillip A. of Edgerton, Randall and Richard Shackelford of Trimble, MO; sisters Nancy Jones of Dallas, TX and Rosemary Robinson of Smithville MO; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Beulah Martin, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville.

Burial: Ridgely Cemetery.

Visitation: 6:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

    We were shocked and saddened to hear about Johns passing. Harley had a lot of fun with him when he would stay with Cian. When we would see John out somewhere he always asked if Harley was being good.:)
