Joe Bill Nash
Joe Bill Nash, 91, of Platte City, MO passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at his home.
He was born November 25, 1919 in Platte City, Mo. to Joseph and Zula (Boydston) Nash; and was a lifelong resident of Platte County, Mo. He was married August 14, 1940 to Lila Belle Vance in Smithville, Mo. Two children were born to them, a son Gary Vance Nash who died December 30, 1956 and a daughter, Jo Karen Nash Brown.
As a dedicated member of the First Christian Church of Platte City, Joe Bill served as a deacon for over 40 years, and is presently a Deacon Emeritus. He was a 60 plus year member of the Platte City Masonic Lodge, a member of the York Rite Affiliated Masonic Bodies, the Moila Shrine Temple of St. Joseph, Mo., and the Weston Shrine Club. His commitment to public service included the following: Platte City School board member for 18 years and former president, Platte City Lion’s Club member and past president, and former president of the Platte City Special Road District on which he served for 20 years. Joe Bill was a former John Deere Implement Dealer and a successful farmer in Platte County for many years. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and a former member of the Leavenworth Country Club of Kansas. Not only was he a member of the Platte County Historical Society, Joe Bill was an inspiration and tireless worker in restoring a historical 1848 antebellum home with his daughter and son-in-law.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lila Belle; his daughter, Jo Karen Brown; son-in-law, William Brown; three grandsons and their wives, Gary Graham and Cathy Brown, William Perry and Amy Brown, and Kenneth Nash and Heather Brown; seven great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ben, Cameron, Kenadi, Kate, Nash, and Jude, all of Platte City; sister, Susie Cockrill and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Zula Nash, son, Gary Nash, brother, Aaron Nash, and sisters, Lorene Naylor and Elaine Walker.
Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 8th at the First Christian Church, Platte City, MO with visitation from 1:00-2:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Burial: Platte City Cemetery
Contributions suggested to First Christian Church Platte City or Platte County Historical Society.
