Joe Allen Swaney
Joe Allen Swaney, 75, of Edgerton, MO, formerly of Smithville, MO passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013.
He was born on May 6, 1937 to Harry C and Edith V (Justus) Swaney in Smithville, MO where he grew up and graduated from High School in 1955.
On March 29, 1958 he was united in marriage to Thelma Rosalie Powers. They were married for 55 years and raised four children in Smithville before moving to Edgerton nearly 6 years ago.
Joe worked for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO for 40 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Smithville where he served as a deacon. Joe enjoyed helping others and doing anything outdoors from mowing to putting up hay and the occasional hot dog roast down at the pond with family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Edith Swaney; sisters, Edna Mosby and Maxine Mosby; and brother, Harry Donald Swaney.
He is survived by his wife Rosalie, of the home; sons, Ron Swaney and wife Linda, Smithville, MO, Terry Swaney and wife Kim, Kansas City, MO; daughters, Beth Webb and husband Richard, Trimble, MO, Amy Crawford and husband Isiacc, Ozark, MO; grandsons, Chris Webb and Steven Swaney; granddaughters, Rachel Phelps and husband Colby, Emma and Bella Crawford; great-grandchildren, Mathew, Patrik, and Trinidi Webb; sister, Ruth Weir and husband Dale, Toms River, NJ; many other family members and friends.
Funeral Service: 11:00 Thursday April 25th at the First Baptist Church, Smithville
Burial: Smithville Memorial Cemetery
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church
In lieu of flowers make donations to the First Baptist Church of Smithville
