Jerry Dale Richards
Jerry Dale Richards, 76, of Smithville, MO passed away September 11, 2014.
He was born on August 25, 1938 to George Lee and Clara Naomi (Carmack) Richards in St. Catherine, MO. In 1957 he graduated from Park Hill High School and later received his Associate’s Degree from Kansas City Junior College. Jerry served his country in the US Navy as an A-4 pilot on the USS Constellation during the Vietnam War.
On September 21, 1963 he was united in marriage to Alice Jeane Schultz. After their marriage they were stationed in California and then Texas. After serving his country he became a pilot for TWA and they moved to Kansas City. In 1979 they moved to Smithville and he continued to work for TWA until he retired as a captain in 1998.
He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church in Gladstone where he and Alice made lifelong friends. After moving to Smithville, they then joined the First Christian Church of Smithville. Jerry was also a member of Kiwanis and the Smithville American Legion. Jerry loved being with his family and friends and enjoyed weekly breakfast with fellow pilots.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother George Lee Richards, Jr. and sister Joan Byrd.
He is survived by his wife Alice of the home; children, Paul Richards and wife Carol, Michael Richards and wife Kathy, Jill Richards and Jeane Johnson and husband Shane; grandchildren Adam Richards, Matthew Richards, Ashley Huebener, Lauren Johnson, Robert “Roby” Johnson, Serena Richards and Violet Richards; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many.
Visitation at 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 14th at First Christian Church, Smithville Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday September 15th at the Church
Arrangements: Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
In lieu of flowers donations to Smithville Kiwanis or the church.
