Jeanne (Shackelford) Sternecker

Jeanne (Shackelford) Sternecker, 92, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Gladstone, MO passedaway April 12, 2017.

She was born on October 22, 1924 to David Allen and Rosa Saloma (Cox) Shackelford in Trimble, MO and graduated from Plattsburg High School.  Jeanne then received her nursing degree from Trinity Lutheran School of Nursing in Kansas City.

She was united in marriage to Robert Sternecker.  After their marriage, they lived in Gladstone, MO where they made their home.  After their retirement in 1992, they moved Mesa, AZ.

Jeanne taught pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospital and then a nursing director for North Kansas City Memorial Hospital until 1967.  She then was nursing supervisor at Trinity Lutheran Hospital and was the hospitals first employee health nurse until her retirement in 1992.  Jeanne was a founding member of the Occupational Nurses Association. 

She was an active member and volunteer in her church life which included Holy Shephard Lutheran Church and St. James Lutheran Church both in Kansas City North.  She then joined the Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ where she was involved in serving people including through Steven’s Ministries.

 Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and sister Beverly Ann Galloway.

She is survived by husband Robert Sternecker, of the home; her sons Sean, Richard, Ron and Roger; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers Phillip and Larry Schackelford; many nieces and  nephews, other relatives and many friends.     

 Funeral Service:  11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 20^thwith visitation from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the service at Hixson-Klein FuneralHome, Smithville (104 W Church Street, Smithville, MO 46089)

Burial:  2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20^th at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
