JANICE M. SLAYDEN

Janice M. Slayden, 74, of Smithville, MO, passed away, Tuesday, February 14, 2006.

She was born on September 13, 1931 to James E. and Olive (Griffith) Buckstead in Irene, South Dakota. Janice grew up in Holden, Missouri, where she graduated high school.

In 1951 she was united in marriage to Gene Slayden. After their marriage they lived in Independence, Missouri, and in 1964 they moved to Smithville where they made their home. Her husband, Gene, passed away January 8, 1983.

She was a member of the Smithville United Methodist Church, where she attended the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group.

Janice was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Barbara Clausen, two brothers, Wayne and Donald Buckstead, and one sister, Doris Meade.

She is survived by one son, Ron Slayden and wife, Joyce, Gower, MO, one daughter, Linda Chisam and husband, Dennis, Holt, MO, five grandchildren, Ashley, Lucas, Matthew, Gene, and Melissa, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, Annabelle Forman, New York, Jean Platt, North Kansas City, MO, and Elaine McDonnell, Topeka, KS, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 17th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial: Dearborn, Mo., Cemetery

Donations may be made to the Smithville United Methodist Church Building Fund.
