James William “Jim” Niland

James William “Jim” Niland, 76, of Dearborn, MO passed away at home on April 26, 2017.
 
He was born on April 12, 1941 in Watertown, Wisconsin.  Jim grew up in Dearborn, MO and graduated from North Platte High School in 1959. 
After his graduation, he enlisted in the US Army.  He was honorably discharged three years later after serving as a missile crewman.
 
Jim’s civilian career included MO State Highway Department, Dearborn, MO; Platte-Clay Electric Coop, Platte City, MO; Creamery Package, Ft. Atkinson, WI; Platte
County Road District, Platte City, MO; Haydite Plant, New Market, MO and Johnson Controls, St. Joseph, MO where he retired in 2003 as a fork lift
operator after 23 years of service.  
 
Jim married Patricia Dovel on January 15, 1972.  They built their home outside Dearborn where they raised their son, Jamie and daughter Jennifer.
 
Jim was a nature lover and proudly spent time caring for his purple martin colony and bluebird box trail.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family.
 
He was preceded in death by his son, James W. Jr.; mother Arlene Mae Billett Singleton; father William James Niland; in-laws L.B. and Laura Dovel; and his
beloved dog Buck. 

He is survived by his wife Patty, of the home; daughter Jennifer (Phil) Reffitt; grandchildren Hannah, Michael, and Taylor all of Raytown, MO; sister Terry (Willie) Williams; brother Shelby (Sarah) Singleton all of Dearborn, MO; brothers-in-law Frank (Vicky), Jim and Joe (Tracy) Dovel, all of Dearborn; sister-in-law Sue (John) Kempt, Wallace, MO; a beloved cousin Shirley Hulbert, Ft. Atkinson, WI; numerous other relatives and friends. 
 
Memorial Service:  4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30th with visitation following until 6:00 p.m. all at New Market Christian Church
In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Food Network, Dearborn, MO
