James Ernest “Jim” McCarthy

James Ernest ?Jim? McCarthy, 57, of Gower, MO passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at his home.

He was born on July 26, 1950 to Arthur Max and Mary Gladys (McCain) McCarthy in Independence, MO. Jim grew up in the Gower area and in 1968 graduated from Gower High School. He then served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Jim graduated from Missouri Western State College with a Bachelor in Accounting. Jim then earned his Masters in Accounting from UMKC.

Jim worked for Light & Power, was a State Auditor, and an Associate Professor at Missouri Western State College and DeVry Institute. He was a real estate broker, and a licensed nursing home administrator. He was also a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service and a police officer for Gower and Plattsburg. In 1988 he began his private accounting practice in the Gower area and met the love of his life, Jackie Jacobs. On October 7, 2000 he and Jackie were married. After their marriage they lived in the Gower area where they made their home, and ran their accounting business.

He was a member of the Gower American Legion Post, the Clinton County Planning and Zoning Board, the Certified Public Accountants Association and the Grayson Cemetery Board. Jim was also an honorary member of the Gower Beaver Club.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Donna Lou McCarthy and brother-in-law, David DeMoss.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie and daughter Holly of the home, brother Art McCarthy and wife, Claudia, Gower; sister, Pat DeMoss, Plattsburg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kandus Jacobs, Marcie Davis, Lisa and Joe DeHerrera, Lou Jacobs, Donald Jacobs, Tom and Jennifer Jacobs, and Ted and Tracy Jacobs; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and pets.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 18th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower

Burial with Military Honors: Grayson Cemetery

Visitation: 6:30-9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
