James E. Armstrong
James Ercel Armstrong, 83, of Smithville, MO passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012.
He was born on June 23, 1928 to Ercel Orin and Alberta May (Farrar) Armstrong in Rushville, IL. Jim grew up and attended school in Green City, MO. He then served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.
On July 20, 1952 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Hope in Green City, MO. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City, MO and in 1960 moved to rural Smithville, MO where they farmed and made their home.
Jim retired as an electrician from TWA in 1989 after 35 years.
He was a member of the Baptist faith and the Smithville American Legion Post 58.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Virginia Cummings and Audrey Shumway and one grandson, Matthew Armstrong.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette of the home; children, Susan Summers and husband Mick, Smithville, MO, Stan Armstrong and wife Mary Ann, Smithville, MO, Bob Armstrong and wife Beth, Kansas City, MO, Greg Armstrong, Lee’s Summit, MO, Lisa Evans and husband Mike, Columbia, MO, and Lynda Armstrong, Mission, KS; grandchildren, Sarah Duckwitz and husband David, Sean and Noah Armstrong, Haley, Jessica, Laura Leigh and Andrew Armstrong, and Carly Evans; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Emily Duckwitz; brothers, Frank Armstrong and wife, Shirley, and Milton Armstrong and wife Anita; sisters, Eunice Evans, Romelle Hoffman and husband Leon, Juanita Thomas, Marie Buckalew, and Martha Ward and husband Jerry; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 11th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville
Burial with Military Honors: Smith Cemetery, Smithville, MO
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10th at the funeral home.
Donations to the Smithville United Methodist Church.
