James Albert “Jim” Wilmes

James
Albert “Jim” Wilmes, 65, of Smithville, MO passed away Friday, July 31, 2015
following a brief illness with his family at his bedside.
 



Jim was born on October 7, 1949 in Maryville, MO.
  He was the son of the late Clyde A. and Mary
Jean (Logan) Wilmes.
  He attended St.
Patrick’s grade school and in 1969 he graduated from Maryville High
School.
  In 1969 Jim enlisted in the
United States Army serving two tours.

 

On
December 18, 1982 he was united in marriage to Debbie Wilson.
  After their marriage they lived in Gladstone
and later settled in Smithville where they made their home.
 

 

Jim
was in the construction and woodworking business most of his life.
  Early on he helped his dad build houses in
St. Joseph, MO.
  Jim later worked for
Huttig Building Products (formerly Magic Woods) for 27 years retiring as the
lead man and Union Steward for Local #541.

 

He
was a member of the American Legion Post #58 in Smithville. Jim and Debbie were
also members of the Kansas City Barbeque Society participating in many
competitions.
  Jim loved the outdoors,
fishing and the KC Chiefs.

 

He
was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.
 

 

Jim
is survived by his wife Debbie of 32 ½ years; daughter Elizabeth Kay Wilmes,
Smithville; sister Sharon (Don) Dredge, Maryville; brother David (Marsha)
Wilmes, Maryville; brother-in-law Jim (Rhonda) Wilson, Savannah; mother-in-law
Frances Wilson, St. Joseph; aunts, uncles, cousins, many good friends and his
four legged companion Charlie.

 

Memorial
Service:
  4:00 p.m. Tuesday August 4th
with visitation from 3:00-4:00 prior to the service all at Hixson-Klein Funeral
Home Smithville

In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice House or Wounded
