J.L. West

 

J.L. West, 88, of Plattsburg, MO passed away Friday, January 15, 2010.

He was born on December 2, 1921 to Elmer and Katherine (Hudson) West in St. Joseph, MO. J.L. grew up in the Stewartsville area and in 1942 graduated from Stewartsville High School. He then served his country in the US Army during WWII.

On September 19, 1949 he was united in marriage to Katherine Marie Henderson. After their marriage, they lived in Hemple and Liberty and in 1953 they moved to the Perrin Community near Plattsburg where they made their home. Katherine passed away on February 25, 2000.

J.L. was a member of the Bethany Christian Church near Stewartsville and the Stewartsville American Legion Post #508. He was also a member of the Gower Goodtimers and the Gower Oldtimers Hall of Fame. J.L. was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association since 1965, and built his own airplane. J.L. enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, dancing, playing bass fiddle and especially flying. He retired from TWA in 1984.

He is survived by his son, Walter West and girlfriend Melissa Swindler, Plattsburg; grandson, Derrick J. West; special friend, Josephine White; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 18th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower

Burial with Military Honors: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO.

Visitation: 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17th at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the Gower Goodtimers.

    Walter, J.L. was so good and kind to Lila and I over the years. He was his own person and had his own way of doing things and was loved and appreciated by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
