Isabella Maria (Sposeto) Johnson
Isabella Maria Johnson, 88, formerly of St. Joseph, MO and Macon, MO passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, MO.
She was born on January 4, 1921 to Francesco and Victoria (Jaquinta) Sposeto in Des Moines, IA.
Isabella graduated from Lincoln High School and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross until enlisting into the Navy WAVES on June 16, 1943. She served under Commander Eddy Peabody at the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. One of her memorable experiences was being a cheerleader for the U.S. Navy football team. It was here, Isabelle met her husband, Grover Cleveland “Johnnie” Johnson, Jr. They were united in marriage on October 10, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2004.
She was also preceded in death by her parents Franscesco (Frank) and Victoria, sisters Caroline and Angela and brother Patrick (Paul).
Isabella is survived by four children: Christine Ann Turner, Omaha, Nebraska; Joe Johnson and wife, Marsha, Sioux Falls, SD; Jim Johnson and wife, Vicki, Grapevine, TX; and Kathleen Moss and husband, Bruce, Stewartsville, MO; eight grandchildren: Mia, Deanna, Taira, Dale, Michael, Jeremiah, Patrick and Jonathan; five great-grandchildren, Joe, Nathaniel, Caitlin, Thomas, Anna and Logan; brothers John and Mickey; sisters, Rosa, Mary, Cathy and Teressa and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24th at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Easton.
Inurnment: Mt. Zion Cemetery, Gower
The family will receive friends at Bruce and Kathy Moss’s home after the graveside.
