Iris Imogene “Jean” (Nixon) Pipes
Iris Imogene “Jean” Pipes, 89, of rural Hemple, MO passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Gower Convalescent Center.
She was born on November 20, 1922 in Mound City, MO at the family home. She was the daughter of George Russell and Ethyl Letha (Guthrie) Nixon. She attended Maitland High School and graduated in 1941.
On December 23, 1945 she married her soul mate John Dee Pipes, Jr. in St. Joseph, MO. In 1951 they moved near Gower where they farmed and in 1961 they moved back to farm near Hemple where they made their home. Her husband JD passed away October 21, 1992.
Jean worked at the Antique Barn in Gower, MO for several years. Jean enjoyed helping JD on the farm with the daily chores, as well as being a homemaker and mother.
She was a member of the Gower Christian Church. Jean was also a member of the Chat N Nibble Club, Fairview Malden Club, Women of the Moose, St. Joseph Catholic Church Quilting Guild and served on the Democratic Committee for several years.
Jean was known throughout the country as a detailed and intricate quilter, by her loving husband as a first class dancer, by her family as a competitive game player, and by her family and friends as a loyal, loving, compassionate women. Traveling was a part of her life with JD especially their trip to Germany and many other excursions throughout the country.
She is survived by her son, John “Jay” Dee Pipes III and daughter-in-law Helen Pipes, Plattsburg, MO; granddaughters, Bridget Welch and husband Ron, Plattsburg, MO and Molly Treichel and husband Derek, Kansas City, MO; grandson, John Michael Pipes, Plattsburg, MO; great-granddaughter, Helena Caroline Welch; siblings, David Nixon and wife Margaret, Jacksonville, FL, Eleanor King and husband David, St. Joseph, MO, Bob Nixon and wife Betty, Ventura, CA, and Beverly Pipkin, Denver, CO; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service : 11:00 am Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower. Visitation: 6:30-8:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial: Allen Cemetery, Gower.

Another one of the lovely ladies of the Chat N Nibble Club. I remember her fondly. I know that she will be missed. Mom (Alta) always thought so much of her. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
