Herschel Franklin Halferty

Herschel Franklin Halferty, 84, of Smithville, MO passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.

 

Frank was born on January 18, 1930 to Herschel and Frances (Griffin) Halferty.  He grew up in Paradise and graduated from Smithville High School.  Frank graduated from William Jewell College in May of 1951 where he was a member of Sigma Nu. 

 

On June 2, 1950 he was united in marriage to Helen Joyce Ecton.  After their marriage they made their home in Smithville.

 

Frank co-owned and operated H. H. Halferty and Sons in Smithville.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Spelman Memorial Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital on Barry Road, and St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City for over 20 years.  Frank was also a board member of the Smithville School District. 

 

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Walter Halferty.

 

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; sister, Ann Payne and husband Bob, Kansas City, MO;  children, Paula Belcher, Westwood, KS; Michael Halferty and wife Janet, Kansas City, MO, Patrick Halferty and wife Janie, Phoenix, AZ, Jennifer Holdsworth and husband Clyde, Smithville, MO, and Daniel Halferty, Smithville, MO; sixteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

 

Visitation:  6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 20th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.

Private Family Burial at Smithville Memorial Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Luke’s Hospital Heart Institute.
