Henry E. Assel

Henry E. Assel, Sr, 67, of Smithville, MO passed away December 5, 2018.

He was born on April 4, 1951, to Joseph Louis and Margaret Marie (Ulferts) Assel in Kingston, MO. Henry grew up in Gower and attended East Buchanan High School. He then served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. 

On November 1, 1969, he was united in marriage to Donna Wildberger. After their marriage, they lived in Shawnee Mission, KS, St. Joseph, MO and in 1980 they moved to Smithville where they made their home.

Henry worked for Missouri Department of Transportation for over 30 years. After his retirement from MODOT, he worked for the Platte County School District as a bus mechanic. 

 He was a member of the Gower American Legion Post #393. Henry enjoyed fishing, camping, helping his family on various projects, and being the ice cream man for his grandchildren. He was a quiet man with a huge presence and spoke volumes with his silence. Henry was the most wonderful husband, dad and poppy and will be missed dearly.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents and sister Helen White.

He is survived by wife Donna Assel; sons Henry Assel, Jr. and wife Wendy and Jason Assel and wife Michelle; grandchildren Zack, Wyatt, Marissa, Emma, Katie, Maggie and Aiden; brothers and sisters Virginia (Raymond) Perkins, John (Cassie) Assel, Ethel (Ted) Deweese, James (Nancy) Assel, and Sam (Cassie) Assel; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

 Memorial Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9th Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower

Private Family Inurnment Allen Cemetery, Gower
