Helen R. (Greer) Boydston
Helen R. Boydston, 84, of Edgerton, MO passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014.
She was born on May 24, 1929 to Jimmy John and Carrie Elizabeth (Pendergrast) Greer in their home in Roosterville, MO where she grew up and attended a one room school near Liberty, MO.
On August 18, 1949 she was united in marriage to Cecil F. Boydston. After their marriage they lived on the Family Farm near Ridgely, MO in Platte County where they farmed and made their home. Her husband Cecil passed away on June 3, 1971.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Frederick Eugene Boydston, her brothers Homer Ray Greer, Jimmy Allen Greer, William Ervin Greer and her sister Mary Etta Hyden.
Helen worked for Spelman Memorial Hospital in Smithville, MO for many years retiring in 1991. Helen loved the outdoors, raising chickens and cattle and in her spare time enjoyed fishing. Helen was a conservationist at heart and loved all things outdoors. She could often be found sitting at the picnic table enjoying nature, watching the birds and listening to their song. Later in life, Helen remained active by taking her beloved Oats bus to the Senior Center every day of the week. She treasured getting out and spending time with her good friends, playing games and making crafts. When not at the Senior center she often played Solitaire, which she affectionately referred to as “my boyfriend, Ol’ Sol”.
Helen is survived by her daughter-in-law Clara (Boydston) Reniker, Smithville, MO; grandsons James Thomas Boydston and wife Martha, Parkville, MO, Benjamin Todd Boydston and wife Dawn, Platte City, MO; granddaughter Kelli Burch, Billings, MT; great-grandchildren Kali G. Boydston and Ashlynn M. Boydston, Nicholas John Fortunato, Matthew Kaleb Fortunato, and Jessica Kathleen Fortunato, Dylan Frederick Boydston and Brooke Mackenna Boydston; cousin Irma L. Pendergrast, sister-in-law Maxine Greer and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Visitation: 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville with Graveside Services following at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7th at Ridgely Cemetery.
