Helen Godert
Helen Marie Godert, 75 of Smithville, MO passed away January 29, 2022.
She was born on January 27, 1947, to Emmett Junior and Emeline Christine (Anderson) Shoemaker in Milwaukee, WI. Helen attended school Monroe City, MO.
On January 28, 1967, she was united in marriage to Loren Thomas “Tommy” Godert. They lived in Moline, IL. Tommy passed away from a motorcycle accident on May 26, 1969. Helen moved back home to Smithville where she made her home.
Helen was known as “Nanny” to several and enjoyed embordering, cross stitching, watching the birds and her soap operas. Helen was an avid reader and was the glue to the family, keeping everyone together. She always remembered every holiday and birthday and was “Aunt Honey” to her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rip and Emmy; her brother Leroy Shoemaker; sisters Ann Dusenbury and Lou Schuler; and great-nephew Elijah Starnes.
Helen is survived by her sister Robin Starnes and husband Dan “Strawberry”; brothers Bill Shoemaker and wife Julie and Jim Shoemaker and wife Terry; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation: 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, February 5th with Memorial Services at 12:30 p.m. at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville
Donations may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice.
