HELEN B. STANALAND

Helen Bernice (Mann) Stanaland, 82, of Gower, Mo., passed away, May 29, 2005 at North Kansas City Hospital as the result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident that also claimed the lives of two of her sisters.

She was born on February 7, 1923 to Harry Hobert and Lottie Minerva (Swindler) Mann near Stockton, Mo. The family later moved to the Plattsburg and Lathrop areas where she attended school.

On December 26, 1961 she was united in marriage to James Stanaland in St. Joseph, Mo. After their marriage they lived in Houston, Texas. In 1962 they moved to St. Joseph, Mo., and in 1963 they moved to the Gower area where they made their home.

Helen worked in the restaurant business most of her life. She owned and operated Helen?s Caf? in Plattsburg, and the Koffe Kup Diner in Gower. Helen also worked for Mutual of Omaha as an insurance agent.

She was a member of the Protestant Faith.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Leasol Mann, two sisters, Lorene Barton and Marie George, two nieces, Sharon McDowell and Rita Hilsabeck, and one nephew, Keith Mann.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home, one sister, Lamoygne McDowell and husband, Dallas, Joplin, Mo., one brother Bill Mann and wife, Wanda, Gower, Mo., sister-in-law, Helen Mann, Agency, Mo., and brother-in-law, Norman George, St. Joseph, Mo., numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June1st at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower, Mo.
Burial: Allen Cemetery, Gower.
There is no scheduled visitation, friends may call anytime after 12:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.
