Hazel Mae (Smith) Willett

 

Hazel Mae Willett, 85, of Lathrop, MO, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Gower Convalescent Center.

She was born on March 10, 1925 to George Washington and Callie (Clevenger) Smith in Norborne, MO. Hazel grew up in rural Caldwell County where she attended school.

On December 8, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ray Carmen. After their marriage they lived north of Cameron where they farmed, he preceded her in death. In October 1973 she married Robert Willett, they made their home in Lathrop. Her husband Robert also preceded her in death.

Hazel was a member of the Worldwide Church of God. She loved quilting, gardening, canning, and being outdoors.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ben, Markes, Robert, and Ralph Smith; and sister, Mary L. Shumate.

Hazel is survived by nieces and nephews, Katherine States, Overland Park, KS, Robert Shumate, Gower, MO, Carroll Overfelt, Independence, MO, Earl Shumate, Excelsior Springs, MO, Mary Ann Clark, Independence, MO, Donald Smith, Colorado, and Martha A. Smith, Arizona; several great and great-great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31st at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial: 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Cowgill Cemetery, Cowgill, MO.
