Hazel M. (Tippit) Williams

Hazel M. Williams went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday, November 21, 2011 in Kansas City, MO. Hazel lived a life as a faithful servant, wrapped in the love of Jesus.

August 31, 1918, Hazel M. Williams was born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of James F. Tippit and May (Futhey) Tippit. She lived in Nowata and Delaware, Oklahoma, attending and graduating from Delaware High School.

August 28, 1938 in Nowata, Oklahoma Hazel was united in marriage to her one, true love, Francis Williams. They immediately made their home in Ferrelview, Missouri where they lived until her husband’s death in December of 1981. Hazel then moved to Smithville, Missouri, where she lived until October 2008. After celebrating her 90th birthday she made her home in the Masonic Assisted Living Home in Kansas City, Missouri where she lived the remainder of her life.

Hazel assisted her brother-in-law, John I. Williams, in the Ferrelview General Store and Post Office prior to her becoming the Postal Clerk in charge of Ferrelview Post Office for nearly 20 years.

Being active, volunteering and giving back describes Hazel’s life. She was a very talented seamstress, floral arranger and handcrafter. Hazel was a member of the Ferrelview Christian Church for over 45 years where she taught Sunday School, kept the sanctuary beautiful with flowers from her gardens while happily serving in any capacity that was needed. After her move she became a member of Smithville Christian Church where she served as Deaconess, enjoyed the fellowship and friendships developed in those years. She volunteered for the ARC Thrift Store in Smithville, Missouri and served as secretary of the Clay County Oats Support Committee.

Hazel was initiated into Barry Chapter 369 Order of the Eastern Star, January 30, 1957. Between 1957 and 1970 Hazel held numerous offices at Barry Chapter 369; she became Worthy Matron in 1970 with her husband Francis by her side as Worthy Patron. Hazel held the office of Secretary at Barry from 1989 to 2002 consecutively. She also held a dual membership in Adelphi Chapter #389 in Edgerton, Missouri and Fidelity Rebekha Lodge #286 in Smithville, Missouri.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son David Francis Williams, daughter Mary Williams Hotham and sister Dorothy G. West.

She is survived by and will be greatly missed by two daughters; Lillie Williams Maness and husband Bill, Kansas City, MO., Anita Williams Colvin and husband Randy, Osborn, MO., seven grandchildren, Stacey Hall, Hillary Lloyd, Cameron Hotham, Christopher Brokenicky, Bradford Foster, Amy Bohannan, Franklin Foster; twelve great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild, an older sister Clara M. (Tippit) Wagner, Indianapolis, Indiana, two younger brothers, James E. Tippit, Fort Morgan, Colorado, Lloyd F. Tippit and wife Mary Lee, Sun City, California, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 23rd at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, MO. Burial: Second Creek Cemetery

Visitation: 6:00-8:30 p.m. Tuesday with Eastern Star Services at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
