My heart is broken today. Every time I drive by your old house on crooked road, I smile and think of David and Ocean. We were great friends and I will miss him. The world lost a good man.

I have just learned of his passing….sad news. David and I grew up together in Hebburn Colliery and were best pals throughout our school days. He knew me as Donnie Kirtley (surname of grandparents who raised me) and I spent much time at David’s home in Harvey Street which was next to Arthur Street where I lived. His mum and dad (Madge and Dick) were always very kind to me and took me to the cinema and greyhound racing in their car…a rarity in those days. David played the piano and I will never forget his childhood party piece ‘The Holy City’ or better known perhaps as ‘Jerusalem’. Wherever you are David, sing your heart out…I will always remember our childhood games around the colliery allotments and those days we both sang with School Street Methodist Chapel Chior. Until we meet again…RIP bonnie lad. Condolences to Ocean and family. Your old chum…Donnie.
