Gloria Jean (Jackson) Monroe

Gloria Jean Monroe, 81, of Gladstone, MO, formerly of Fairfax, SD, passed away, Tuesday, June 21, 2011.

She was born on September 6, 1929 in Lake Andes, South Dakota. Gloria graduated high school in Fairfax, South Dakota.

On August 18, 1949 she was united in marriage to Robert Keith Monroe, in Fairfax, South Dakota. To that union they had five children, Gregory, Cheryl, Calvin, Roberta and Marcia. Bob and Gloria first settled after their marriage in Lake Andes, SD. Over the years they moved numerous times to different towns and states until retiring back in Fairfax. In 2009 they moved to Missouri to be closer to their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Jackson and Edna (Engel) Jackson Lokken, step-father, Claude Lokken, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sherman and Frances Monroe and her daughter, Cheryl Blyshak.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Robert K. Monroe; children, Gregory L. Monroe and wife Jackie, Calvin L. Monroe and wife Julie, Roberta R. Swisher and husband James, Marcia L. Chism and husband James; son-in-law, R. Dennis Blyshak; grandchildren, Kristina Monroe-Lowe and husband Shawn, Adam Monroe, Joshua Monroe and wife Jill, Katelinn Salyers, Linsey Swisher, Robert “Tony” Chism and Ashley Chism; great-grandchildren, Briana Lowe, Corinna Lowe, Jenna Monroe, Jaden Monroe, and Colton Salyers. Gloria was an only child but had several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. They were her brothers and sisters, they include, Ken and Fern Monroe, Sherman and Vivian Monroe, Richard and Jo Anne Monroe, Dorothy and Norman Anderson, Dorla Fischer, James and Dorothy Monroe and Phyliss and Charles Rohe; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7^th at First Congregational Church, Fairfax, SD.
