GERTIE L. BUCKLER

Gertie Lee (Herndon) Turner Buckler, 96, of Dearborn, MO passed away Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the Gower Convalescent Center.

She was born on September 9, 1909 near the “Covered Bridge Area” in Platte County Missouri to Simeon B. and Nora Lee (Miller) Herndon. She was the oldest of four children.

Gertie Lee graduated in 1927 from Smithville High School. She attended Warrensburg Teacher’s College. Instead of becoming a teacher, she became a wife and mother.

Gertie Lee married Lewis Turner on September 12, 1928. They resided near Camden Point, MO where they farmed. To this union, four children were born. Lewis, passed away on August 6, 1939.

In 1948 Gertie Lee married Truman C. Buckler and moved to a farm south of Dearborn. To this union, twin daughters were born. Truman passed away on April 9, 1968.

Gertie Lee was an active member of the Dearborn Baptist Church where she was the Financial Secretary for many years. She also served in many other capacities as called upon. She was a charter member of the Fun & Friendship Club in Dearborn and enjoyed the Friendly Seniors in Camden Point. Gertie loved to cook, sew, crochet, garden and play pitch. Gertie Lee never met a stranger.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Jessie Schwarz, a brother, S.B. Herndon, Jr., a grandson, Ray Buckler, and sons-in-law, Forrest Anderson and Larry Cockriel.

Gertie Lee is survived by her sons, and their spouses, Bill and Marge Turner, Smithville, John and Bernice Turner, and Simeon and Kay Turner, both of Kansas City, daughters, Mary Lee Anderson and Darlene Buckler of Dearborn and Byrdie Arlene and husband, Jerry Mrkvicka, Lincoln, NE, step-son, Truman Lee and wife, Betty Buckler, Dearborn, step-daughter, Norma Jean Cockriel, Edgerton, MO, brother, Miller K. and wife, Norma Herndon, Lawson, MO, sixteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 15th at the Dearborn Baptist Church, Dearborn, MO
Burial: Camden Point Cemetery, Camden Point, MO
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the church and 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service Monday at the church.
