Geraldine A. “Jerry” Summers

Geraldine A.  ?Jerry? Summers, 87, of Smithville, MO passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at her home.


She was born on October 2, 1927 to William A. and Jessie L. (Snedigar) Hallmark in Kansas City, MO.  Jerry grew up in Kansas City where she attended school.


On March 19, 1949 she was united in marriage to Donald Rupert ?Buddy? Summers.  After their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home.  They farmed and raised livestock.  Her husband, Buddy, passed away January 28, 2013.


During the war, Jerry worked at a Textile Manufacturer making war goods.  She was also a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company in Smithville and was a cook and waitress at the Dairy Y.  In later years she enjoyed being the snack bar manager at the Paradise Point Golf Course for over 15 years.


Jerry was a member of the First Baptist Church in Smithville.  Jerry had a lifelong love for horses and she and Buddy were charter members of the Smithville Saddle Club.  They raised American Saddle Bred Show Horses and attended American Royal Horse shows and won several blue ribbons.  Jerry was a true lover of all animals and especially the love of her life, her dog ?Tidbit?.  Jerry enjoyed listening to music and loved to dance.  They were members of the Boots and Bows Square Dance Club.  They were also avid Royals and Chiefs fans and enjoyed attending games with their family and friends.  Jerry was an accomplished seamstress, great cook, and had a passion for gardening.


She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Wilma June Justus and brother-in-law, Ivan ?Pinky? Justus, niece Patricia Ann (Justus) Willoughby, and brother-in-law, Donald F. Warren.


Jerry is survived by her children, Donnie Summers and wife Tina, Lathrop, MO, Connie Lytle and husband Dave, Smithville, Dannie Summers and wife, Beverly, Smithville; her beloved dog, ?Tidbit?; five grandchildren, Curtis (Amy) Summers, Jessica Summers, Lesli Summers, Chris (Lisa) Shannon, Dustin (Karen) Howerton; eight great-grandchildren, Madyson, Ethan, Melanie, JD Wayne, Makenzie, Makayla, Austin, Tyler; sister, Jackie Lee Warren; other relatives and many friends.


Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.


Visitation:  5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.


Burial:  Smithville Memorial Cemetery.
