George Osborne

George Osborne, 101, of Smithville, MO formerly of Alta, IA passed away, June 29, 2023.

He was born on March 7, 1922 to Silas and Rachael (Hite) Osborne in State College, PA. George grew up in Alta, Iowa where he graduated high school. He then served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.

On August 25, 1945 he was united in marriage to Charlene Castle. After their marriage they lived near Alta, Iowa where they farmed and made their home. His wife, Charlene, preceded him death on September 15, 2005. George moved to Smithville, MO to be near his surviving family.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Chad Osborne; great-grandson, Jeff Hagberg.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alta and he attended the Family Worship Center in Smithville. George spent his later years enjoying woodworking, sewing, attending church, and visiting with friends.

George is survived by his son, Lynn Osborne and wife, Shirley; grandchildren, Tom (Susan) Osborne, Kimberly (Steve) Darnell, Sharon LaFever, Anita LaFever and Larry LaFever; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Lucy Zimmerman; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service with Military Honors: 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 7th at Family Worship Center, Smithville, MO with visitation one hour prior.

Graveside: 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 10th Alta, Iowa

    I am sorry to hear of your dad’s passing, Lynn, My prayers and sympathies for you and your family.He was so Blessed to live 101 years. I really liked your parents all those years ago. God Bless you.
