GEORGE M. BABER
George Melvin Baber, 93, of rural Platte County, MO, passed away, Wednesday, August 9, 2006.
He was born on August 8, 1913 to Robert Jackson and Iva Glenn (Keefhaver) Baber in Platte County, MO, near the covered bridge area. George grew up near Camden Point and graduated from Camden Point High School.
On October 7, 1933 he was united in marriage to Lena Frances Wade. After their marriage they lived in rural Platte County where they farmed and made their home.
He was the oldest surviving member of the Hoover Christian Church where he had served as Deacon and Elder.
George was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John L. Baber, and one sister, Alta Mae Dickerson.
He is survived by his wife, Lena Frances “Francie“, of the home; sons, John M. Baber and wife, Patsy, and Robert W. Baber and wife, Pat, all of Platte City, MO; grandchildren, Susan Miller, Steven Baber and wife, Linda, James Baber and wife, Margaret, Jeff Baber and wife, Robin; eight great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Sue Miller, Waxahachie, TX; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial: Ridgely Cemetery
Donations: Hoover Christian Church.
