George Grier

GEORGE GRIER

George Grier, 87, of Gower, Mo., passed away, Friday, August 5, 2005 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

He was born on August 28, 1917 to George Sampson and Carrie (Ray) Grier in rural Gower, where he grew up. George later graduated from Gower High School.

On February 12, 1943 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Kerns. After their marriage they farmed in rural Gower, where they made their home.

George was a member of the Gower Christian Church. In the 1930s he was a Golden Gloves Boxer. George was also a member of the Gower School Board, the Gower and Easton Lions Club, and the Gower Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

George was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, John.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of the home, one son, Eddie Grier and wife, Linda, Hemple, Mo., six daughters, Diane Groom and husband, Bill, Pueblo, Co., Rebecca Lloyd and husband, Stephen, Thurman, Ia., Patti Grier, Sidney, Ia., Terry Beach and husband, Tim, Kansas City, Mo., Linda Simpson and husband, Ed, St. Joseph, Mo., and Brenda Lull and husband, Howard, Syracuse, NY, nineteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one sister, Elizabeth Ray Horn, San Clemente, Ca., several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower, Mo.
Burial: Allen Cemetery, Gower, Mo.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gower Christian Church.
