George A. McCorkle
George Allen McCorkle, 89, of Lathrop, MO, passed away, Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Oakridge of Plattsburg.
He was born on August 12, 1917 to Henry and Georgia McCorkle on a farm east of Trimble where he grew up.
On April 12, 1941 he was united in marriage to Ola May Crosswhite. After their marriage they lived in Paradise and in 1975 they moved to Lathrop where they made their home.
George was a farmer and also worked 28 years as a parts manager, retiring in 1975.
George was a member of the First Christian Church of Lathrop and was also a deacon at Paradise Christian Church. He served three times as a School Board Director at Paradise School. He joined the Odd Fellows Lodge in June of 1946, where he was a past Noble Grand Master. George was past Chairman of Clay County Association of Odd Fellows, was District Grand Master of Missouri I.O.O.F., and past member of Smithville Saddle Club and Kearney Saddle Club. He served on the Clinton County Extension and served two terms as chairman. George also attended the Gower Goodtimers and belonged to the Lathrop Antique Car Club. He was in many parades all over Northwest Missouri with his Mini Mules and Mule Shows. He and his wife have traveled all over the world.
George was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Myrtle Irene Brockenicky.
He is survived by his wife, Ola May, of the home; two sons, Joe McCorkle and wife, Paula, Turney, MO, and Richard McCorkle and wife, Vivian, Smithville, MO; and three grandchildren, Danny, Lisa, and Damon; five great-grandchildren, one sister, Helen Fern Harris, Smithville, MO; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 9th at the First Christian Church in Lathrop.
Burial: Lathrop Cemetery
I.O.O.F. Services: 6:30 p.m. Thursday with visitation until 8:30 p.m. at the church.
Donations may be made to the Gower Goodtimers or the church.
