Genevieve Elizabeth (Meadows) Crenshaw
Genevieve Elizabeth Crenshaw died peacefully after a long and happy life on Sept. 23rd, 2009. She was born in Foley, Missouri on April 19, 1917, daughter of Obie and Susie Meadows. She was the oldest of three children; her sister Isabel predeceased her, her brother Clifton Meadows lives in Galesburg, IL. She married J.V. Crenshaw on his birthday, August 28th, 1938. They had three children, Joel Robert who died in 1990, David who lives in Poughkeepsie, New York with his wife Mary and Jeneane who lives in Gower. Genevieve and J.V. moved to Gower from Liberty, Missouri in 1947 and she has been part of the Gower Community ever since. She began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse near Foley, Missouri where she taught all 8 elementary grades. Genevieve was an elementary school teacher in the Gower School system for 24 years. She taught Sunday school at Gower Baptist Church for many years and Vacation Bible School for more than 60 years. She was known as a kind, gentle, loving, and generous mother, neighbor, and friend to countless people throughout the community.
Genevieve adored her four grandchildren, Stefanie, Gillian, Hollee, and Garon and her four great grandchildren, Bryson, Dalan, Eziah, and Silvia. A fifth great grandchild, Ameriee, preceded her in death. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 28th at the First Baptist Church, Gower
Burial: Allen Cemetery, Gower
Visitation: 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the church
