Geneva Fern (Ecton) Sponaugle

Geneva F. Sponaugle, 90, of Smithville, MO, passed away, Thursday, December 8, 2011.

She was born on November 9, 1921 to Floyd E. and Beulah L. (Kephart) Ecton in Smithville, MO. She graduated from Smithville High School in Smithville.

On January 10, 1947 she was united in marriage to Charles Sponaugle. They lived on a farm east of Smithville for 60 years, where they made their home. Her husband, Charles passed away July 23, 1996.

She was active in the Smithville First Christian Church, and the Rebekah Lodge. Geneva operated her own beauty shop in Smithville. She served nine years on the Smithville School Board and drove a school bus for 19 years.

Geneva was an excellent cook most famous for her homemade noodles and many cookies and candies at Christmas time. She loved to play pitch and often played with the neighborhood groups.

Geneva is survived by her three children, Donna McCullough, Peculiar, MO, John Sponaugle and wife Gail, Boonville, MO, and Mark Sponaugle, Carthage, MO; three grandchildren, Justin Sponaugle, Megan Neugebauer and husband AJ, and Erin McCullough; two great-grandchildren, Audrey and April Neugebauer, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 13th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.

Visitation: 7:00-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial: Smithville Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Christian Church or the Smithville School District.

    Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Aunt Geneva was a very special person to my mother Fern King-Titus. I can remember it was so much fun getting together and looking forward to the Sponaugle reunion!
