Gene Eldridge

Gene Eldridge, 85, of Lathrop, MO formerly of Clay County Missouri, passed away December 8, 2013.

 

He was born October 21, 1928 to Lynn B. and Virgie Eldridge in Wrigley, Kentucky.

 

Gene served in the United States Marine Corp and after his discharge returned to Topeka, KS. He served 28 years with the Topeka Public Golf Course, Topeka KS before going to Paradise Point Golf Course in Smithville, MO. Gene was very proud to be part of the planning and development of this golf course facility. He loved his career and all the friends he came to know thru the course.  He retired from Clay County Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites in January 1999 after 18 years of service. He was a life time member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association.

 

After retirement he and his life companion, Mary Wolf, enjoyed travel and their home in Arizona. They returned to the Holt area in 2007 where they made their home until Mary’s passing in 2008. Gene made his final home in Lathrop MO making many new friends. 

 

Gene was the oldest of 10 children. He dedicated his life to his family and his career as Golf Course Superintendent. Gene had 8 children, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. He loved and influenced several step children that remained a part of his life until his death.

 

Visitation:  5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12th at the funeral home

Funeral Services:  10:00 a.m. Friday, December 13th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville

Burial:  2:00 p.m. Friday at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka, KS

    sSorry to hear about Gene. I met Gene
    in 1965. He will be missed by all who
    knew him. I was the super at Oakwood
    c.c. for 31 years. I attended numerous
    meetings with him.

    So sorry to hear about Genes passing.
