Frances Kathryn Orr

 

Frances Kathryn Orr, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2010.

She was born on February 21, 1911 to Richardson Clyde Hulse and Julia Jackson Baker in Paradise, Missouri. Her father was a successful and well-respected farmer in the community who passed his business sense to his daughter.

Frances Kathryn attended William Jewel College, earning a degree in education. She taught in a country school before marrying and having two children, Patricia McGuire and Richard E. McGuire.

Frances Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Quinter Orr, her son, Richard E. McGuire, her grandson Rodney Scott Grimes, and her son-in-law Donald Lee Grimes.

Survivors include daughter Patricia McGuire of Fayetteville, Arkansas; granddaughter, Tana Dawson of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and granddaughter, Andrea Grimes Woods and her husband Jeff Woods of Conway, Arkansas. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Rebecca Marinoni, Rosa Marinoni, Kathryn Marinoni, Cullen Woods, and Abby Woods.

Frances Kathryn was a very active member of her community. She was a charter member of Clinton County Missouri Historical Society and a member of Tri Psi, an organization for mothers and grandmothers of Tri Delta sorority members. She was very involved with the Rollins Family Reunion and served as president. She was a contributor to the foundation of Oakridge of Plattsburg, where she lived during the last years of her life. Frances Kathryn was a true Christian woman and was a member of the First Christian Church of Plattsburg, serving several years as clerk of the board, as well as Sunday School Teacher.

Everyone who knew Frances Kathryn is aware that she enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved spending time with her family and many friends. One of her favorite activities was playing canasta with women in the community. A word that many people would use to describe Frances Kathryn is “sharp.” She was an extremely intelligent and wise woman who retained her wit and sense of humor even after a century of living.

Visitation with the family will take place at noon at First Christian Church of Plattsburg on Tuesday, March 30. Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with burial following at Grayson Cemetery.
